Discover how to transform project management in hybrid work environments

As businesses across the globe settle into a new hybrid working environment, keeping projects organized, informed, and focused is more important than ever before. In a world where team members can now work anywhere and everywhere, new capabilities and tools are necessary. The partner webinars featured in this blog post show how different organizations are integrating Microsoft solutions to improve project management and collaboration among hybrid teams. The post will be updated as more webinars go live.

According to Project Management Institute (PMI), almost 8 in 10 business leaders agree that the move to remote collaboration is here to stay, and 6 in 10 are already digitizing their core business operations and processes, transforming the way teams work for the better. PMI also reports that 25 million new employees with project management skills will be required to drive workplace change by 2030. Transforming how hybrid project teams work in ways that save companies time, simplify task management, and reduce clutter will become just as important—if not more so—as resource allocation, budget management, and critical path analysis.

Our partners are already at the forefront of this change, helping teams to work more collaboratively and drive business results. In a series of new webinars, some of them share how they are integrating Microsoft tools like Project and Teams into their workflow in order to manage projects in a hybrid environment more efficiently and effectively.

The future of project management is hybrid

At Microsoft, we believe that hybrid work is the future of work and that, to empower their people to succeed, business leaders will need to reimagine their organizations with a new operating model for people, places, and processes. It’s vital to put everyone on equal footing—whether they’re together in a conference room in Atlanta, presenting remotely from a home office, or catching up once the workday begins in Sydney. And although many organizations have focused on meetings, benefitting from the innovations we have introduced in Teams, we’ve also seen our partners making Teams, Project and Project for the web, and Power Platform work together for project management.

Project management in a hybrid work environment presents new challenges to project managers and team members alike. Staff are not only getting used to new ways of working, but also new ways of living, and everyone has different views on what hybrid work should be. The project professional needs to keep team members focussed, engaged, and informed, while providing them with ways of working that deliver results. They also need to drive collaboration that is constant and consistent, ensuring that those working remotely don’t feel disconnected from the conversations taking place in the office. The answer to these challenges comes not just from project processes and governance, but from the technologies they use to manage project delivery, and team communication and collaboration.

The webinars in this series demonstrate these technologies, explain how to bring them together in an integrated way, and provide real-life examples from companies that are using them to drive better project management in their hybrid work environments.

Next-generation work management

By combining the platform and tools customers need for project, portfolio and work management, teams can become more collaborative and drive business outcomes. OnePlan Solutions will demonstrate how Microsoft Project for the web along with the Project Accelerator can transform the way teams work. Similarly, PPM Works will show how the Microsoft 365 modern project management approach saves companies valuable time, simplifies task management within shared workstreams, and reduces tool clutter.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) has also transformed project and work management into a strategic advantage by centralizing the management of project data and work on Project Online, Project for the web, Microsoft Teams, and other tools in the Microsoft ecosystem. In Innovative-e’s webinar, you’ll hear firsthand from SNHU about its experience unifying data and project management platforms to support its mission to reinvent higher education, a sector that has been affected more than most by the pandemic.

Long-term survival in today’s hybrid work environment requires an ability to change direction quickly and effectively. For project professionals, that means going beyond traditional project management methods to find the agility needed to support rapid strategy changes. Prosperi shows you how to navigate these transformation challenges by empowering frontline users and simplifying projects and portfolios, while retaining control and good project governance.

Such challenges aren’t the sole preserve of the commercial sector. Continuously improving programs and products that deliver value is just as important in the non-profit sector, requiring a collaboration of both business and technical teams. In one of Advisicon’s two webinars, you’ll learn how the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) uses Microsoft Project, Azure Dev Ops, Power BI, and Teams to support its thousands of stakeholders through prioritizing and managing complex solution and product delivery (note that this webinar is eligible for one Technical PMI® Professional Development Unit).

Moving beyond the virtual meeting

Other webinars in the series demonstrate how, by combining the whole gamut of Microsoft project management and collaboration solutions, organizations are not just benefitting from connecting hybrid workers together, but driving better project management processes and outcomes. Project Made Easy, for example, paired Power Platform with Project and Teams to help staff in a hybrid environment work the way they wanted and give executives the results they needed. Similarly, Sensei Project Solutions utilized Project for the web, Power Platform, and Teams to enable the project management office at Muckleshoot Casino to execute collaborative, transparent, and standardized project management across their 24/7 business.

Organizations that have adopted Microsoft Teams regularly look for ways to improve project management within the platform. Projility’s webinar will provide an overview and walkthrough of the different tools that can assist. The session will provide an overview of how teams can use the latest Microsoft technologies to automate the connection between Project and Teams to improve project visibility, insight, and controls, and drive updates to key project information and deliverables to perform better project, portfolio, and resource management.

Microsoft Project for the web and Power Platform can transform the way a PMO collaborates to deliver projects on time and on budget, at low cost and with minimal organization change. In their webinar, Marque360 will demonstrate how their pre-configured Project for the web accelerator extends the schedule and task management functionality in Project for the web to include issue and risk tracking, status reporting, governance, and more.

The global pandemic has impacted many organizations, and none more so than those in the medical sector which now have to manage healthcare and supply chain logistics in the context of a hybrid remote and in-person work environment. In their second webinar, Advisicon will demonstrate how global media device innovator Acumed leverages Microsoft Project and Power Platform solutions to enable its teams to manage resources, timelines, and delivery of complex development projects, ensuring their Project Management Office continues to produce results (note that this webinar is eligible for 1 Technical PMI® Professional Development Unit).

Simplify and reimagine project management across industries

These partner webinars also show how organizations are tackling the challenges of hybrid work in different sectors. In retail, for example, a successful transformation requires technology that can attract, train, and retain the next generation of workers, equipping them with the skills they need to reimagine retail and shape a sustainable future. And digital transformation is compelling manufacturing and banking workforces to learn new skills. In a new series of webinars, Microsoft partner Innovative-e will demonstrate how Teams is being used to support project management in just a few of these industries.

Retail and consumer products organizations need to increase customer engagement, optimize inventory, and build resilient supply chains. To do so, they must empower employees with digital transformation tools that speed alignment of people, processes, and technology. This means turning project and work management into a strategic advantage with a modern toolset. In its first webinar in the series, Innovative-e will explain how retail businesses can put collaboration first and allow employees to use familiar tools to get more done, by bringing the entire work and project management experience into Microsoft Teams.

Similarly, work from home and now return to work show that collaboration needs to happen in real time, even in sectors such as manufacturing. Yet project management still gets overlooked and isolated from other activities, leading to significant decisions being made without proper portfolio visibility or consideration of resource implications. In the next webinar in the series, Innovative-e will show how manufacturers are transforming project and work management into strategic advantage by bringing the full work and project management experience into Microsoft Teams.

In the final webinar in the series, Innovative-e turns its attention to the financial services sector, where organizations must not only consider all of the same collaboration needs, but also how they meet stringent compliance and governance requirements when automating their business processes and creating innovative products. They will show how their Teams4PM app controls and governs project intake and Teams channel creation, centralizes data for real-time executive insight, and leverages the most advanced project scheduling applications available.
